Diaspora Komuniti Cina Seberang Laut ke Selangor di Tanah Melayu, 1896 – 1939
Abstract
IKHTISAR: Makalah ini bertujuan mengkaji tentang diaspora komuniti Cina Seberang Laut ke Selangor semasa penjajahan British. Komuniti Cina yang datang ke Tanah Melayu mempunyai satu tujuan, iaitu lari dari kemiskinan hidup yang penuh dengan penderitaan dan kesengsaraan di tanah air mereka dengan harapan dapat mengumpul kekayaan. Tarikan mendapat kekayaan terus mendorong mereka untuk mencuba nasib di Tanah Melayu, khususnya di Selangor dengan tiada niat untuk menetap secara kekal. Mereka berazam untuk kembali semula ke Cina apabila berjaya dalam hidup dan mempunyai harta yang banyak. Mereka meninggalkan keluarga dan sentiasa mengirimkan wang kepada ahli keluarga di Cina. Tetapi apabila sebahagian dari mereka yang gagal untuk pulang ke Cina, atas pelbagai faktor, akan mengambil keputusan untuk terus menetap secara kekal di Tanah Melayu. Di samping komuniti Cina yang telah tersedia menetap kekal, penghijrahan masuk terus-menerus komuniti Cina Seberang Laut ke Selangor menjadi semakin rancak, apabila kerajaan Cina membatalkan sekatan ke luar negara dan Kuala Lumpur sebagai ibu negeri yang terletak di kawasan perlombongan timah di Selangor menjadi tumpuan utama komuniti ini.

ABSTRACT: “Overseas Chinese Diaspora Community to Selangor in Malaya, 1896 – 1939”. This paper aims to investigate the Overseas Chinese diaspora communities to Selangor during British colonial rule. Chinese community came to Malaya with the sole purpose of running away from poverty and full of suffering and misery in their homeland in the hope of accumulating wealth. Highlights have continued to push their wealth to try his luck in Malaya, especially in the state of Selangor with no intent to reside permanently. They have determined to return to China when successful in life and have a lot of property. They leave family and always send money to family members in China. But, when some of them who failed to return to China, on a range of factors, will decide to continue to reside permanently in Malaya. In addition, beside the Chinese community who settled in place, migration of Overseas Chinese communities continues and become more vibrant to Selangor, when Chinese government revoke restrictions abroad and Kuala Lumpur as the capital city of state in the tin mining in Selangor is the main focus of this community.
